Schools

Exam preparation and independent study, with safeguarding built in.

An AI tutor taught from your own materials that makes pupils think, is built to follow your safeguarding policy, and alerts your safeguarding lead.

Safeguarding

Bring your own safeguarding policy

Each school links its own safeguarding policy, and the tutor is built to follow that guidance whenever a pupil raises a wellbeing or safety concern.

  • The pupil sees emergency and support routes at once.
  • The tutor is built to follow your policy, calmly and without improvising.
  • Your named safeguarding contact receives an email alert.

Read our safeguarding policy

It looks like you are experiencing wellbeing or safeguarding issues. If you are in immediate danger, call 999. If it is urgent but not an emergency, contact NHS 111. You can talk to Samaritans any time on 116 123 (jo@samaritans.org.uk), or Childline on 0800 1111 if you are under 19. Please also tell your school or college's safeguarding lead or wellbeing service, or another adult you trust.

How schools use it

Three learning modes for school pupils

Schools use Rosenshine, Oral Examiner and Adaptive Learning for exam preparation and independent study.

  • Rosenshine learning mode

    Exam preparation, step by step

The tutor teaches in small steps with a check for understanding before each next step, so pupils build secure knowledge before the exam.

Learner: Can you help me revise balancing equations?

Tutor: One small step first. In H₂ + O₂ → H₂O, count the oxygen atoms on each side. What do you get?

  • Oral Examiner learning mode

    Testing what they really know

One question at a time, a clear judgement on each answer and a progress review every five answers, so pupils find their gaps before the exam does.

Learner: Mitochondria are where respiration happens.

Tutor: Examiner judgement: partial. Correction target: name the type of respiration. Follow-up question: what does the cell release there, and what is it used for?

  • Adaptive Learning learning mode

    Independent study and homework

The tutor adapts to each pupil, draws diagrams and sets worksheets from your materials, then marks the answers.

Learner: I don't get osmosis at all.

Tutor: Let's start with a picture. I've drawn a membrane with water on both sides: which side has more water?

Research

What research says about digital tools in secondary schools

A peer-reviewed meta-analysis of digital tools in general, not of Nested Learning.

The potential of digital tools to enhance mathematics and science learning in secondary schools: a context-specific meta-analysis

Hillmayr, Ziernwald, Reinhold, Hofer and Reiss (2020). Computers & Education 153, 103897

Digital tools improved learning (g = 0.65). Intelligent tutors and simulations did better than other tools, and effects were larger when tools supported teaching rather than replaced it.

What it does not show: It covers digital tools in secondary maths and science, not Nested Learning.

Questions

Questions from schools

Is the AI tutor safe for school pupils?

It is built for safeguarding. If a pupil's message suggests they may be at risk, the tutor replies with emergency and support routes, including 999, NHS 111, Samaritans and Childline, tells them to speak to their school's safeguarding lead, and emails the school's named safeguarding contact. It teaches only from the school's approved materials.

Can the AI tutor follow our own safeguarding policy?

Yes. We call this bring your own policy: each school links its own safeguarding policy, and the tutor is built to follow that guidance whenever a pupil raises a wellbeing or safety concern, alongside the fixed emergency routes and the alert to your safeguarding contact.

Can pupils use it for exam preparation?

Yes. Rosenshine mode teaches step by step with frequent checks, Oral Examiner tests understanding with one question at a time, and Adaptive Learning sets worksheets from your materials and marks the answers.

Does it work in Welsh or Scottish Gaelic?

Yes. A school can choose Welsh or Scottish Gaelic, among 13 languages, as the language the tutor replies in. Voice input and read-aloud currently work in British English.

Does the AI tutor need pupils' names?

No. Sessions are tied to the school and a pseudonymous reference, so the service is designed not to rely on names or email addresses where a pseudonymous identifier is enough.

Soon you will be able to learn about Nested Learning by using it: our own AI tutor will answer your questions about the product, the learning modes and pilots.

How would this work for my apprentices?

Good question to start with. Which part of their standard do they find hardest to practise outside work?
