The problem

Institutions need a version that makes them think instead.
A tutor that asks and probes extends that time between lessons.
Analytics for every turn show confidence, misconceptions and originality.
A tutor bound to approved materials, with escalation, is not.
What makes it different
And shows you what every learner understood.

Pedagogical
Eight learning modes, from Socratic Partner to Adaptive Learning, each with defined behaviour.
“I can help you plan, structure, and improve your own work, but I can’t write assessed sections for you…”
Honest
Requests to write assessed work are declined and turned back into learning.
Adaptive
Adaptive Learning reads how a learner is doing on every turn and changes its teaching approach to suit. It draws diagrams and sets worksheets from your course materials, then marks the answers.
Voice
Learners can speak to the tutor, see their words appear as they talk, and have replies read aloud.
Visible
Confidence, sentiment, originality and concepts for every turn, plus a summary of every session.

How it works
They ask in their own words, by typing or speaking, about the course their teacher has set.
In Socratic Partner mode the tutor never gives the answer. It asks one focused question at a time.
The tutor notices the learner has the direction of movement wrong, and probes it rather than correcting it.
Each turn is scored for confidence, originality and concepts, so teachers see understanding, not clicks.
When the session ends, the teacher receives a short summary: what was covered, what went well and what to do next.
Illustration with synthetic data. Not a real learner.
Rather than giving me the answers, it challenged my thinking like an academic supervisor, prompting me to think more deeply and articulate the reasoning behind my decisions.
Evidence
These are peer-reviewed studies of AI tutoring in general, not of Nested Learning. We summarise what each found and what it does not show.
Kestin, Miller, Klales, Milbourne and Ponti (2025). Scientific Reports 15, 17458
Students learned more, in less time, from an AI tutor built on research-based teaching practice than from an in-class active-learning session, and reported higher engagement and motivation.
What it does not show: It studied a different AI tutor, not Nested Learning.

Digital tools improved learning (g = 0.65). Intelligent tutors and simulations did better than other tools, and effects were larger when tools supported teaching rather than replaced it.
What it does not show: It covers digital tools in secondary maths and science, not Nested Learning.

Questions
Nested Learning is a UK company, based in Leeds, that develops AI tutors and learning analytics for education and training. Its AI tutor teaches from an organisation's own course materials using named teaching methods, and its analytics show teachers and leaders what each learner understood.
It is built to teach rather than to give answers. It works from the course materials an organisation uploads (rulebooks) instead of the open internet, uses one of eight named teaching methods such as Socratic questioning, and declines to write assessed work. Teachers then see analytics for every turn of the conversation.
No, it is built not to. When a learner asks it to write, rewrite or polish assessed work, it declines with a fixed reply and turns the request back into learning, for example by asking for the learner's own draft. Originality is scored on every turn, so staff can see whose thinking is on the page.
It offers eight learning modes: Socratic Partner, Rosenshine, Oral Examiner, Gibbs Reflection, Simulator, Academic Coach, Academic Feedback and Adaptive Learning. Adaptive Learning changes its approach to fit each learner, draws diagrams and sets worksheets from the course materials, then marks the answers.
The tutor replies in 13 languages, including Welsh, Scottish Gaelic and Arabic. Learners can talk to it instead of typing and have replies read aloud. Our accessibility target is WCAG 2.2 AA.
Nested Learning works with universities, colleges and apprenticeship providers, training and development teams, and online tutoring companies, as well as schools. It also offers consultancy and training to help organisations adopt AI.
Pricing depends on the size and type of deployment, so we quote after a short call. Options run from a pilot to a department or programme, a whole institution, an enterprise, or a partner arrangement. Book a pilot call to talk it through.
