Consultancy and training
Institutional change that reaches the classroom.
Pedagogy, process and AI, diagnosed together and delivered as one programme.
What Nested Learning's consultancy does
Nested Learning advises colleges, universities and training providers on how learning is designed, delivered and supported, and on the operational processes beneath it. Our CEO has led this work from inside institutions, not just advised on it.
The problem we solve
Three separate problems to the institution, one to the learner
Most institutions treat teaching quality, digital systems and operational process as three separate problems with three owners. The learner experiences them as one.
Where they are not aligned, the symptoms are familiar: inconsistent VLE experience, uneven staff confidence, fragmented data, and AI adopted tool by tool rather than by design.
Our approach
Situation, complication, resolution
We start from where your institution is, name what stands in the way, and resolve it in sequence.
Situation
Your institution is under pressure to improve retention, progression and learner experience while adopting AI responsibly and meeting regulatory expectations.
Complication
Practice varies across departments, systems do not share data, and staff capacity to change is finite.
Resolution
A sequenced, evidence-led programme that fixes the highest-value constraints first, builds internal capability, and leaves governance in place.
Structuring the problem
Four branches that cover the whole learner experience
We break "how do we improve the learner experience?" into four branches that are mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive (MECE): each question sits in one branch, and together they cover the whole problem.
| Branch | Core question |
|---|---|
| Learning | Is the curriculum, pedagogy and assessment design producing the intended outcomes? |
| Doing | Do course start-up, close-down, onboarding and caseload processes support those outcomes consistently? |
| Enabling | Do staff skills, digital infrastructure and data give people what they need? |
| Governing | Are AI use, data protection and quality assurance defined, owned and auditable? |
Every engagement starts by testing a hypothesis in each branch, so effort goes where the evidence points rather than where habit does.
Breaking down learning and doing
The learner journey, stage by stage
We map the learner journey end to end and treat each stage as both a pedagogical and an operational process.
Attract and onboard
Entry information, induction, early engagement.
Teach and practise
Content, activity design, tutor and mentor contact.
Assess and feed back
Assessment design, feedback quality and turnaround.
Support and intervene
Early-warning signals, caseload management, escalation.
Progress and complete
Retention, completion, transition and employer links.
For each stage we establish the current state, define the target state, quantify the gap, and prioritise actions on an impact and effort matrix.
What we deliver
Six services, from strategy to staff capability
Each service can stand alone or form part of one programme. Only AI tutor implementation is tied to our own product.
Digital learning strategy and VLE experience review
Consistency of the learner experience across courses, platforms and modes of delivery.
AI readiness and governance
Policy, use-case prioritisation and risk framing for staff and learner use of AI.
Pedagogy and process redesign
Assessment, feedback, course lifecycle and mentoring models.
Learning analytics and measurement
Defining the indicators that matter and how they are used in practice.
Our learning analyticsStaff capability programmes
Applied CPD for teaching, support and leadership teams.
AI tutor implementation
Piloting and embedding Nested Learning's own AI tutor where it fits the strategy.
The AI tutor
How we work
Diagnose, design, deploy, embed
We pilot before we scale, and we agree success measures before we start.
Diagnose
Output: Baseline, stakeholder interviews, hypothesis tree, prioritised findings.
Design
Output: Target operating model, options appraisal, business case, RACI.
Deploy
Output: Time-boxed pilot with defined success measures.
Embed
Output: Governance, handover, capability transfer, benefits review.
Why Nested Learning
Advice from people who have done the work
Our advice comes from practice inside institutions and from running our own AI tutor platform.
- Practitioner-led. Our CEO has worked across teaching, digital leadership and edtech in colleges and universities.
- Regulatory fluency. We understand the quality, funding and compliance context FE, HE and apprenticeship providers operate in.
- Network. We bring established relationships across the education sector.
- Built, not theoretical. We run our own AI tutor platform, so our advice on implementation comes from doing it.
- Honest about fit. We sell an AI tutor, and we say so. We recommend it only where it fits your strategy, and the rest of our advice does not depend on it.
Questions
Questions about consultancy
What consultancy does Nested Learning offer?
Nested Learning advises colleges, universities and training providers on how learning is designed, delivered and supported, and on the operational processes beneath it. Services cover digital learning strategy and VLE review, AI readiness and governance, pedagogy and process redesign, learning analytics, staff capability programmes and AI tutor implementation.
How does a consultancy engagement with Nested Learning work?
In four phases: Diagnose, Design, Deploy and Embed. We agree success measures before we start, run a time-boxed pilot before anything is scaled, and finish with governance, handover and a benefits review.
Do we have to use Nested Learning's AI tutor?
No. AI tutor implementation is one of six services, and we recommend our AI tutor only where it fits your strategy. The rest of our advice does not depend on it.
How do we start working with Nested Learning?
With a scoping conversation. Together we agree the question, the evidence needed, and what a useful first four weeks looks like. Book a call in our booking calendar, or contact us.
