Rulebooks
Taught from your materials, not the internet.
A rulebook is the set of course materials the AI tutor teaches from. Your handbooks, specifications and criteria become the tutor's only source.
How it works
From upload to tutoring in three steps
You upload your materials, we prepare and check them, and the tutor teaches from them.
Upload your materials
Add the documents your course already uses: a module handbook, a specification, marking criteria, a policy. Or name a web page, such as an apprenticeship standard.
We prepare and check them
Each source is converted to clean text and checked before the tutor can use it. Only approved sources go into the rulebook.
Learners are taught from them
A teacher chooses the rulebook for their organisation. For each reply, the tutor finds the relevant passages and teaches from those.
Supported formats
Use the files you already have
Rulebooks can be built from PDF, Word and plain-text files, and from web pages you name.
- PDF.pdf
- Word.docx and .doc
- Plain text.txt
- Web pages you namesecure (https) addresses only
Keeping to scope
How the tutor stays within your sources
The tutor answers from approved sources only, and is built to bring learners back to the course.
Approved sources only
The tutor retrieves only from the sources approved for your organisation. It does not browse the web.
No addresses from learners
Learners cannot point the tutor at a website. Web pages are added only through set-up, from an approved list.
Back to the course
The tutor is built to stay on the course. In Adaptive Learning it names the current module and offers a starting point from it.
Relevance you can see
The analytics score how central each concept a learner discusses is to the rulebook.

Why the source matters
…this has been created by a subject expert and will therefore be able to provide much more accurate feedback and insight.
Questions
Questions about rulebooks
What is a rulebook?
A rulebook is the set of course materials the AI tutor teaches from, such as a module handbook, a specification, marking criteria or a policy. The tutor draws its examples, questions and feedback from the rulebook rather than from the open internet.
Which file types can I upload as a rulebook?
PDF, Word (.docx and .doc) and plain-text files, and web pages you name, such as an apprenticeship standard or an awarding body's specification. Each is converted to clean text and checked before the tutor uses it.
Does the AI tutor search the internet?
No. It retrieves only from the approved rulebook sources set up for your organisation. It does not browse the web or fetch addresses typed in by a learner.
What happens if a learner goes off topic?
The tutor is built to stay on the course. In Adaptive Learning, for example, it names the current module, says the session is for that, and offers a starting point from the course materials.
Can one organisation see another organisation's rulebooks?
No. Rulebooks, like sessions and analytics, belong to one organisation, and each organisation can only use sources approved for it.
